According to one story, she saw her father, Guru Amar Das, meditating on a wooden seat.

He saw that one of the legs of the seat was about to break, so he used his hands to keep the seat upright to prevent the Guru from falling. After the Guru finished meditating, he found Bibi Bhani's hand bleeding. Seeing this, the Guru told her that her child would be the successor to the position of Guru.

Akbar had gifted Bhani the estate during his meeting with Guru Amardas, as the Guru had not accepted any official royal patronage in his own name. Akbar had given this land to Bhani as a wedding gift.
