18 September - 16 October, 2020
Adhik Maas is an extra month in the Hindu calendar. This time Adhik Maas will start from 18 September and will be till 16th October. The month of Adhik Maas or Malmass is considered inauspicious. There is a ban on doing all kinds of auspicious work in this month. It is also called Purushottam month. More Maas looks after three years. The month of Malmass will start as soon as Pitripaksha ends.
This year, from September 17 to October 16, there will also be Ashwin Adhik Maas. That means two Ashwin. Due to this, all the festivals after Shraddha Paksha like Navratri, Dussehra, Deepawali etc. will start from 20 to 25 days later. There will be a difference of about a month between Shraddha and Navratri. Dussehra will be celebrated on 25 October and Deepotsav on 14 November. Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi is on 25 November. After 19 years, Ashwin has come again in the form of Adhimas, then after 19 years in 2039, Ashwin will come as Adhimas, but Leap Year and Adhik maas have come together after 160 years. Before this coincidence was formed in the year 1860.

No auspicious functions such as marriage, shaving, house entrance are performed in the Adhik mass.
