🐦Kokila Vrat - कोकिला व्रत

Kokila Vrat Date: Wednesday, 13 July 2022

Kokila Vrat is observed on the day of Ashadh Purnima, but it is started a day before. The special significance of Kokila Vrat is a boon(Vardan) for married happiness and early marriage for unmarried.

This fast is observed from the full moon of the first Ashadh to the full moon of the second Ashadh when the month of Ashadh is more. Bathing in the Ganges, Yamuna or other holy rivers during the fast is more rewarding.

During Kokila Vrat, take food only once, sleep on earth, follow celibacy(brahmacharya) and avoid gossiping about others. According to some beliefs, women bathe with herbs on the day of the fast, so women get beauty and form due to the effect of fasting and medicine.

Generally, Guru Purnima and Kokila Vrat are observed on the same day, but sometimes Kokila Vrat can also take place a day before Guru Purnima depending on the beginning of Chaturdashi Tithi.

According to some beliefs, observing this fast brings beauty and form. It is best to take a bath with herbs on this day. In some places, a picture or an idol form of a cuckoo(kokila) is also offered to a temple or a Brahmin.
