The station has been named after a student named Rajiv Goswami. Rajiv was a commerce student at the Deshbandhu College, Delhi University who came into prominence when he attempted self-immolation to protest against Prime Minister V.P. Prachin Hanuman Mandir is an ancient temple dedicated to Bal Hanuman from the Mahabharata period. It is claimed to be one of the five temples of Mahabharata days in Delhi.
