The Vijayanagara rulers added further additions between the 14th and 16th centuries. The ancestors of the famous religious saint Tyagaraja were associated with the temple.

Lord Thyagaraja is associated with the unique divine dance form called \"Ajapa Nattanam.\" It is one of the Sapta Vidanga Sthalams, which relate the stories of King Muchukunda and Indra.
