Shukdevji, also known as Shukdev or Shuka Muni, was a great sage and a central figure in many Hindu scriptures, especially the Bhagavata Purana. He was the son of the sage Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas and the Mahabharata, and is regarded as one of the greatest spiritual teachers and renunciants in the Hindu tradition.

Shukdev was born with immense spiritual knowledge. It is said that he remained in his mother's womb for 12 years as he was already absorbed in deep meditation and was reluctant to enter the material world. As soon as he was born he left home to live a life of renunciation even though his father Vyasa tried to stop him.

He is known for narrating the Bhagavata Purana to King Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna, who was cursed to die in seven days. This discourse, delivered on the banks of the Ganges, forms the basis of the 18,000 verses of the Bhagavatam and is one of the most revered texts in Hinduism. Sukadeva is often regarded as the epitome of asceticism. He is often cited in spiritual texts as an ideal sanyasi.

His descriptions of Bhagwan Krishna's pastimes and divine qualities in the Bhagavata Purana reflect his deep devotion. His teachings emphasize Bhakti Yoga - the path of loving devotion to God - as the highest spiritual practice. Shukdevji is considered a Chiranjivi and Paramahansa.
