Ramanuja, also known as Ramanujacharya or Ilaiah Perumal (Tamil: perumal [Lord]), was a South Indian Brahmin theologian, philosopher, thinker and a social reformer from India.

Ramanuja is famous as the chief proponent of the Vishishtadvaita school of Vedanta, and his disciple was probably the author of texts such as the Shatyajna Upanishad. Ramanuja himself wrote influential texts in Sanskrit such as the Brahma Sutras and commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita. Ramanuja believed that the existence of soul and matter is dependent on Brahman.

His doctrines inspire a vibrant intellectual tradition in the southern, northern and eastern states of India, with his monastic and temple traditions continuing in the most important and large Vaishnava centers – the Ranganatha Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, and the Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh Are. The Statue of Equality in Hyderabad, commissioned by Chinna Jeeyar, is dedicated to Ramanuja. It was inaugurated on 5 February 2022 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
