Ghatasthapana is also known as Kalashasthapana.
How to do Ghatasthapana Festival:
During Ghatasthapna, people fill "holy water" in a Kalash. The kalash is then coated with cow dung and barley seeds are sown in it. It is then placed in a sand pit which is also sown with barley seeds. This Kalash is blessed by pujari who asks Devi Durga to reside in the pot for the entire festival.
The pot is worshiped by a family member twice a day, every day till the festival is over. The Kalash is kept away from incense and holy water is poured into it daily. This activity results in a tall, yellow grass growing from the pot called a "jamara".
On the first day of Navratri, worship of Maa Durga is started with the establishment of Kalash. Many rituals performed during Ghatasthapana are kept secret. This ritual is performed all over India on the first day of Navratri.
❀ Clean the place of Ghatasthapana in the Puja house thoroughly and do Ghatasthapana in the east or north direction.
❀ After this, purify that place with Ganges water.
❀ Then spread some clean soil there and then put barley seeds on it. Then cover the barley seeds well by adding soil again. After this, sprinkle some water.
❀ Fill the Kalash with water and Gangajal and also put a coin in it. During this, meditate on Varun Dev.
❀ After this, tie Kalava on the Kalash. Put a bowl of clay on the mouth of the Kalash and cover the bowl with barley.
❀ Then take a coconut and wrap it with a red chunni and place a branch of mango leaves and place the coconut on top of the urn.
❀ Kalash is considered as the form of Ganapati. That's why Kalash is worshiped before worshiping Mata Rani.
