How to Reach Maa Dewri Temple
The temple is located in Diuri village, Tamar, Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is easily accessible by road. Ranchi Railway Station is the nearest railway station, and Ranchi Airport is the nearest airport.
The Maa Dewri Temple is of great antiquity; it is believed to have been constructed between the 16th and 20th centuries. The temple shares a deep connection with the Munda tribal community, and its rituals and modes of worship differ significantly from those found in many mainstream Hindu temples. The idol of the Goddess stands three feet tall and features sixteen arms; she holds a bow, a shield, flowers, and other attributes in her hands. She is revered as Maa Dewri. In this temple, the Goddess is worshipped for six days by tribal priests known as Pahan, while Brahmin Pandas conduct the worship for only one day.
As per Bhaktibharat, the temple is deeply connected to the tribal religious heritage of Jharkhand; thus, it holds significance not merely as a place of pilgrimage but also as a symbol of cultural identity. It does not feature a vast or grand complex; rather, it is small in size and built in a traditional style. Its most distinctive feature is an ancient, 16-armed stone idol of Goddess Durga. The sanctum sanctorum is the spiritual heart of the temple, and its design reflects a distinctive regional style. The temple's significance stems not so much from its grand architecture as from its ancient idol, unique worship traditions, and cultural heritage.
