Janmashtami is celebrated by Hindus around the world to mark the birth of Bhagwan Krishna, the eighth avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu. Janmashtami is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Hindu community across the United States as it is their annual event. They celebrate the birth of Krishna in various ways and show their love for Bhagwan Krishna on that day. According to the USA calendar, this event falls in August or September, which is equivalent to the month of Bhadrapada in the Hindi calendar. The Hindu community celebrates a holiday in America and prays to God for a better life. This year the festival will be celebrated from 6 Sept, 2023 – 7 Sept, 2023.

In the United States during Janmashtami celebrations, events are organized by temples, with priests and other speakers reciting lessons from the life of Bhagwan Krishna. Along with the aarti, a child idol of Shri Krishna is placed on a swing in the accompaniment of the traditional Janmotsava(birth ceremony) of Bhagwan Shri Krishna, music, hymns and dance. Many people display their devotion from their homes by decorating their homes and offering prayers in the temples of their homes during the festival.
