2026 Spring Equinox | March Equinox (2026 बसंत विषुव | मार्च विषुव)

2026 Spring Equinox | March Equinox
The March equinox is the Basant (spring) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumnal (fall) equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox is called the spring equinox. The vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere occurs approximately on March 20 or 21, when the Sun crosses the celestial equator going north.
Key Points about the March Equinox:
❀ During March it is springtime in the Northern Hemisphere and the March equinox is called the vernal equinox and spring equinox while in the Southern Hemisphere it is autumn time and the March equinox is called the autumnal equinox and the fall equinox.
❀ Similarly in the northern hemisphere it is autumn time during September and the September equinox is called autumnal equinox and fall equinox while in the southern hemisphere it is springtime and September equinox is called vernal equinox and vernal equinox.
❀ However, in reality, the equinox occurs at a specific moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, the imaginary line in the sky above Earth's equator, from south to north.
❀ To avoid any confusion the equinoxes are referred to as the March equinox (northern equinox) and the September equinox (southern equinox). Many cultures around the world celebrate the entire day as the March equinox.

In Hindu astrology, the spring equinox is known as Vasant Vishuva or Vasant Sampat. The Hindu equivalent of the Vernal Equinox is different due to precession and is celebrated on Mesha Sankranti.
